We had our Fall Kickoff dinner for Union this past weekend. This is the most incredible group of people ever. Josh and I have formed some life-long friendships with this group and we feel so blessed to know them. If you're looking for a good, young-marrieds Sunday school group, this is THE one to be in!

Officially a Foosball Widow
Monday, September 15, 2008
It's that time of year once again. That time of year where my husband leaves me for another man...or men, rather. That time of year where hoots, hollers and yells are heard from miles around. That time of year where what's on the TV dictates everyone's every move.
That's right... it's Football season. It's A&M season. It's Cryboy season.
In my 27 years on this beautiful earth, I've tried to learn the game of football and I just can't quite get it. My dad always watched it when I was a kid, but was never "into" it. We were more of a baseball family. Now THAT game I totally get!! It makes sense!
Anyway, back to foosball...I tried to figure it out in high school simply so I could understand what my History teacher was talking about all the time. I tried to learn it several times in college to impress guys (c'mon... someone else HAS to have done this!!) I tried REALLY hard to learn it when I met Josh because I knew how much he loved it. Alas, it is a lost cause. There are just too many rules, regulations, exceptions, and ...stuff. See? I had to resort to using the word "stuff" because I don't even get it! Every time I think I have something figured out, Josh says, "well, there's an exception". I give up. Therefore, in this post, I am going to re-write the game to how I think it should be played.
1 - First of all, since the players are already wearing tights, let's add some tutu's to the uniform. It would add some color and it would hide all the umm.. "junk" if ya know what I mean. HELLO I don't want to see that! Put on a tutu and *bingo!* problem solved. I'd be happy to make them. I am a professional tutu maker after all. I could even add sequins so they are flashier.
2. Cheerleaders will be required to wear uniforms that actually hold their *ahem* various body parts in place. Maybe burkas. And the only cheers they can do are Spartan cheers. How amazing would that be?!
3. Players should publicly apologize when they tackle each other and seal it with a hug. No reason other than I think it'd be funny to watch big football players in tutus hugging each other.
4. I think instead of playing with a football, they should have to play with an egg. I bet the players would be a lot more careful then, not just because of the obvious mess it would make if the egg was broken but because...
5. If you break the egg, you have to sing the National Anthem, backwards, while hopping on one foot and wearing the other teams tutu color.
6. Forget clearly marked end zones, wouldn't it be more fun to have secret zones? That way you never know if you're in the zone. Oohh, what if you're about to make a touch down! What if you're in the other teams' secret end zone! You never know!
7. There will be no more "overtimes". Instead, the teams will have a dance off, Riverdance style, in the event of a tie game.
8. There are secret rules that only the referees know. This keeps everyone guessing. You never know when you're going to get a penalty or an advance!
8. Most importantly, anyone watching the football games at home is strictly forbidden from screaming at the TV for risk of giving their wife a heart attack.
From here forward, this is how the game shall be played. If I can't understand the game, then NO one should understand the game!
Yeah, I'm obviously REALLY bored tonight...

I am going to be switching my blog to private in a week. This just means that in order to view it, you'll need to sign in real fast with your email address. BUT, I need your email address so I can add you to the "safe" list. I'm doing this because I heard some crazy rumor that the internet has some wackos surfing it! Can you imagine?! ;)
So, either leave me a comment with your email, send me an email at joshandrobin@sbcglobal.net, or send me a message on facebook or something.
Thanks!

Dude, I've been Punk'd.
Monday, September 8, 2008
I think God Punk'd me.
Have you ever noticed, that just when you feel like you're getting your life on track and going the way you want it, God throws you a curve ball to remind you who is in control? Welcome to my life over the past week!!
I had been making really good progress in my anxiety/panic issues. I hadn't been having any problems and the few I had, I was easily able to dissipate them. HOORAY!! I was so happy that things were finally starting to get back to normal! I was finally on my way to being a "functional adult". The job stuff was (is) still iffy, but at least I was starting to feel in control of my life again! Then.....
*CRACK! BANG! BOOM!* (that's supposed to represent literary lightning by the way)
God decided to remind me that I need to keep relying on him and that I'm not the one in charge. I guess I was starting to enjoy being in control again. I have problems with being in control. Always have. I like to be able to do anything and everything MY way. It's all my parents fault. Really! They had me first and first- borns just naturally like to be in control. So, it's all their fault.
Anyway, in true Almighty God of the universe fashion, HE wanted to remind me that HE is in charge around here and my hubby got sick. Nothing serious, nobody freak out, but still sick. Josh never ever gets sick!
It started with a bacterial infection which he took several antibiotics for over the course of a couple weeks...none of which worked. Finally, on Saturday the 30th, the doctor put him on Avelox, the "atom bomb of antibiotics". Doc said that Josh would feel really lousy, like someone had beaten him up, for the weekend but would be back to normal and feeling great on Monday. Sounds great! Well, he wasn't kidding about the 'feeling lousy part'. By Saturday night, he was nauseated and hurting really bad. Sunday was even worse. His joints were killing him. Monday, which was supposed to be "back to normal" day, was even WORSE yet. I've never seen my husband in so much pain and so scared. Even though we knew it was the meds that were making him feel so awful, it was scary to hurt so bad.
Tuesday, we booked it to our regular doctors office and he got all kinds of blood work done just to make sure everything was ok. (So did I, but that's another story.. stupid doctors with their sharp, pointy objects...grrrr! Everything is fine with me btw) We then had to go home and wait for the results, all while Josh was still writhing in pain/nausea/anxiety etc. We had no reason to believe they would produce anything negative, but still, waiting for blood work is never fun. Another adverse side effect of the Avelox, by the way, is extreme anxiety so that toppled with the fact that he/we were already anxious about how sick he was, didn't help.
This probably doesn't sound too incredibly terrible to a lot of you, or at least it sounds manageable, but for me, it was probably one of the toughest things I've had to experience in a looooong time. Reason being is that I didn't think I was "ready" to be the adult. While things are getting better, I still have panic attacks. I still need constant reassuring from my husband (who is AMAZING, by the way) that everything is ok. I'm just finally getting to where I feel in control again, but I still need him to be the "adult" in the relationship. I wasn't prepared to have to step up and be the re-assurer and the adult. It, quite honestly, scared the livin' crap out of me! I wasn't sure what to do. I had to suppress any and all feelings of anxiety/panic because I had to be the strong one. The protector. I felt so overwhelmed and frustrated and scared. In fact, I don't think I can remember a time where I felt so completely overwhelmed and empty. I had nothing left in me to give. Nothing. I've never felt like that before and it was scary. It was if I was confidently holding the reins and suddenly, they were jerked out of my hands and the carriage was weaving wilding. There was nothing I could do but hold on tight and pray that God would save me! And, of course, He did.
I truly believe, in my heart of hearts, this past week was a lesson and reminder from God. I can't tell you what all Josh learned from it, because well, those were his lessons. But I can tell you some of what I learned. That I am nothing without Christ. That I can't be a 'functional adult' without His help. I also realized that I can't keep relying on my husband to tell me I'm ok ALL the time. While that is great and as husband and wife, we need to be there for each other, I need to realize that true peace only comes from Him and that I need to let go of control and remember" You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Is 26:3) All I have to do is keep my mind on Him and trust in Him and he will keep me in perfect peace! Not just peace, but PERFECT peace. Does it get any better???
I think sometimes we need those subtle (or not-so-subtle) reminders from God. Sometimes we need God to Punk us. So we go "Oh my gosh what is going on?!?!?! I can't handle this!!" And then God rides out on his proverbial white horse and says "haha! Everything is ok!! I'm in control of everything and you have nothing to worry about! I was behind the whole thing and just wanted to remind you to always keep your eyes on me!!"
Ok, so maybe Punk'd isn't the perfect analogy considering I believe God has our best interests at heart and isn't doing it just for a laugh. And I don't think God is particularly fond of all the 4-letter words that are typically found throughout an episode of Punk'd, but eh, it's the only analogy I could come up with on just a few hours sleep :)
Anyway, all is well now. Josh's blood work came back fine (as suspected), the pain is almost completely gone, and we're getting back into our routine. I feel as though I've taken two steps forward and one step back in the panic arena, but that's ok. I know that if I keep trusting God He'll take care of me and get me back to my full self again.
We are lucky enough to have a gaggle of amazing friends who were lifting Josh up throughout the week, so to all of you, thank you! You have no idea how much your prayers were appreciated! Two of these friends, Paul and Susan, were nice enough to drop by one evening and check in on us. I even convinced Susan to sneak out for a quick walk with me so I could get out of the house! She was nice enough to oblige, even though I know her allergies were probably killing her! :) We're lucky to have such a strong support group around us. The Lord has really blessed us.
So.. has anyone else been Punk'd by God??

Veinless chickens
Wednesday, September 3, 2008
I would just like to reiterate how much I hate chicken veins. They absolutely gross me out. There is nothing more disgusting than when you're fixin to take a bit of chicken and and you suddenly see that dangly vein hanging out. Ew, ew, ew. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy chicken quite a bit, but why can't they make veinless chicken? I mean really. If they can make seedless watermelons, why not veinless chickens??
Anyway, our dinner tonight was, guess what? Chicken! It was a pathetic chicken dinner though as you'll see below. Josh has been sick and not eating much other than Slimfasts with a side of Advil, so I was impressed that he wanted something a little more substantial. Unfortunately, I wasn't incredibly hungry tonight so we opted to have baked chicken. With a side of nothing. Sad huh?
What's even sadder is that those are 8 inch dessert plates and I didn't even finish the teeny tiny one on the left. I told you chicken veins gross me out... and the first bite I took had one hanging out. Kinda ruined it for me. Ah well. Maybe I will chase it down later with a bowl of ice cream. Healthy huh?
In the meantime, I am going to write a letter to Bo Pilgrim and ask him to look into veinless chickens. I think they'd be a hit! He's a nice man....he once gave me $20 in chapel at DBU, well, actually he gave everyone who went to chapel that day $20, so, not only is he nice, but he's loaded so he could afford to look into veinless chickens. I hope he pays more attention to my letter than Truett Cathey did regarding the chicken salad sandwiches! Still waiting on that one...
